Point cloud models can be imported and viewed in SYMMETRY VR in either *.las or *.laz file format. There are some features that are tailored to working with point cloud models that will be explained in this article.
- Fly jet
- Double import
Point cloud models can only be imported from Local Disk in *.las or *.laz file type by selecting the file and clicking Import File.
When the model has finished loading it will appear in the middle of the room at 1/100 scale.
Users can immerse into the point cloud model at 1:1 scale by pointing down to the model with the non-menu hand and pulling the trigger button to teleport.
When importing a point cloud model the Studio will change to a boundless space, which is useful for working with large point cloud models.
Clicking the Menu button on the non-menu controller will toggle grid mode in the Studio along with changing the edge style.
The Point Shape, Point Size, and Point Color of the imported point cloud model can be adjusted after import along with brightness and contrast.
Push and hold the grip button on the right controller to fly around the model.
Moving around a point cloud model using point-and-click teleport can be difficult as the points are inherently not uniform, and as such Fly jet makes it significantly easier (and more fun) to move around. Additionally, using the fly jet allows you to reach areas that are unreachable via point-and-click teleport alone.
Markups can be drawn and placed in point cloud models just like any other file type.
In order to use Markups in a point cloud model, the model must have a corresponding point cloud file in SYMMETRY Cloud.
An additional SketchUp model can be imported on top of a point cloud model.
After importing a point cloud file, click Import More to load in a SketchUp model from SYMMETRY Cloud or Local Disk.
Grab, Extended grab
Grab and Extended grab allows users to move SketchUp models around in Studio or Immerse mode after loading a point cloud model, which can be useful for placing a model of a proposed design on top of a point cloud model.
Grab - Pull and hold the trigger button to bring the model in front of the controller, and release the trigger button to place the model.
Extended grab - Grab models from a distance by pointing at the model with the non-menu controller until the purple bounding box appears as in the image above. Pull and hold the trigger button to move the model, and release the trigger button to place the model.
Horizontal lock - Activating Horizontal lock will lock models horizontally.
